Tines Cases is your investigation and case-management tool, and Records is the structured-data store that sits alongside it. To work with either one from a Tines 3B workflow or chat, you connect to the Tines API once through a single connector.
This article walks you through setting that connector up so your workflows can open, update, search, and manage cases and records in Tines 3B.
What you're connecting to
Tines Cases and Records both live behind the Tines API, and Tines 3B reaches them through one connector called Tines Stories.
The same connector covers the entire Tines API too, so you don't need a separate one for cases, records, comments, subscribers, or activities for example. Set it up once and every case and record-related call in your workflows can use it.
Note: To create a connector in Tines 3B, you need the "create connectors" permission. If the create button and library cards are greyed out, ask a tenant admin for help.
You'll also need two things to hand:
Your Tines Cases/Stories tenant URL.
A Tines API token, which you'll generate in the next step.
Step 1: Generate a Tines API token
The connector authenticates to Tines Cases/Stories with an API token.
To create one:
Sign in to your Tines Cases/Stories tenant.
Open your settings, then select API keys.
Create a new key and copy the new token secret. You'll paste it into the connector in a moment.
Step 2: Create the Tines Stories connector
Now set up the connector in Tines 3B:
Open the connectors area, open the browse library and search for Tines Stories.
In Tines URL, enter your Tines Cases/Stories tenant hostname, for example <<yourcompany.tines.com>>.
In API token, paste the token you copied in step 1.
Review who can access the connector on the access tab, then save.
Step 3: Confirm the connection works
Every configured connector shows a status pill. Click the refresh icon on the pill to run a check.
This calls your Tines Cases/Stories tenant's /api/v1/info endpoint to confirm Tines 3B can reach Tines Cases/Stories with your token. Once the pill reads ‘Active’, you're ready to use it in workflows.
Using the connector in a workflow
You don't have to wire the connector to every step by hand. When you ask Tines 3B to open, update, or search a case, or to work with records, it looks for an existing Tines Stories connector and reuses it automatically. If it can't find one, it prompts you to create it, which is the setup you just completed.
Once your connector is active, you can ask Tines 3B to create a workflow for Cases or Records straight away.
For a conceptual overview of how each feature works, see the Cases overview and the Records documentation.
