Build and chat hands-free with voice mode

Understand how to use voice mode in Tines 3B

Written by Jamie Gaynor

Sometimes it's faster to say what you want than to type it. Voice mode lets you dictate to Tines 3B with your microphone instead of the keyboard. You speak, Tines 3B turns your words into text, and you send it just like a typed message.

This guide covers where you can use voice mode, how to record and send, and how it works alongside the prompt ideas already built into the composer.

What voice mode is

Voice mode is speech to text for the composer. When you turn it on, Tines 3B listens through your microphone, transcribes what you say in real time, and places that text where a typed prompt would go.

Note: Voice mode currently only transcribes English.

Because voice mode uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, you'll need a browser that supports it and you'll need to allow microphone access when prompted. If your browser doesn't support speech recognition, or you deny microphone access, voice mode simply closes without recording.

Where you can use it

You can dictate anywhere you'd normally type to Tines 3B:

  • The workflow composer. On the "What do you want to do?" screen where every workflow starts, use voice mode to describe the automation you want.

  • The chat composer. While you're building or refining a workflow in chat, dictate your next message instead of typing it.

  • Freeform questions from Tines 3B. When Tines 3B pauses to ask you something open-ended, the answer box includes a mic so you can reply by voice.

Note: In the workflow composer, the mic is disabled if you don't have permission to create workflows in that space.

Dictate a prompt step by step

The flow is the same wherever you record:

  1. Start the recording. Select the microphone button. If this is your first time, allow microphone access when your browser asks.

  2. Speak. Tines 3B transcribes as you talk. You'll see a live waveform while you record, and in the workflow and chat composers a timer shows how long you've been speaking.

  3. Finish. Send your dictated text, or stop to review it first (see below).

Send or review what you dictated

Voice mode gives you two ways to finish:

  • Send it. Your dictated text is submitted right away, the same as sending a typed message.

  • Stop and review. Recording stops and your transcribed text drops straight into the composer, where you can edit it and then send when you're ready.

So if you want a chance to fix a word or add detail before sending, stop and review rather than sending directly.

Tips

  • Review long prompts before sending. For a detailed workflow description, stop and review so you can proofread the transcription first.

  • Keep it in English. Voice mode transcribes English, so other languages won't come through reliably.

  • Check your mic permission. If voice mode closes the moment you start, your browser may be blocking microphone access. Allow it in your browser's site settings and try again.
